Consistently Inconsistent

These are my results for the week which basically shows that the only thing consistent about my play is its inconsistency. At least it was a Profitable week just, and I'm opening up my range a bit more but on the whole I suppose there not too bad.

I got a fair amount of hands in this week as I've been off work but will be back in on Tuesday unfortunately so will probably be down to about 2/3K.

The only real comment I would make is am I playing too much from the Small Blind. At the minute I am raising with pretty much any hand that is folded round too me

Please feel free to make any comments or suggestions.

Thanks

Chris

Chris, I do think that you have done well to open up your game by at least 3 VPIP percentage points in recent weeks! You probably do need to add a few more points over the coming months, but I am sure that win rate will benefit in the long run.

You actually almost certainly played too much poker this week! I only play 5k hands this week (still a record number for me) and at times I felt completely burnt out. You might well find that you play much better next week, when you can come home from work with the anticipation of playing, and really bring your A-game to the table.

The SB is certainly a difficult seat to play. Anytime you see a flop from this seat you are OOP, which is generally bad news. You could actually do a lot worse than fold every single SB, without even looking at your cards. (A bit extreme, but you get the idea).

I have been focusing in on the Fold to a BB steal stat on my PAHUD to decide whether to steal or not. Last night I had a really neat table where I was sitting to the right of two pretty tight players, both of whom folded to every button steal or SB steal I made for a 90 minute session! Towards the end, I had the BB folding 19 out of 19 times to my button steal, which is absolutely ridiculous! However, on my other table, the BB two seats to my left was only folding 45% of my steal attempts, so I tightened right up on that table with my steals.

i think rob has some valid points here chris .

certainly the small blind is a tricky position to play from as always you are oop . as he says you could not do worse than folding all the time . maybe give yourself an utg range to play with here !

also sometimes if my button and cutoff figures are not high enough during my session i will play any two cards from the button and cutoff and you will be surprised at how often its effective..not suggesting that is an ideal way to play but it illustrates the importance of position .

there is a video of a tourney player annette-15 playing a stars 180 player sng where she plays blind (post it note over her cards) and wins . she only plays in position the whole game and WINS !! 180players !! i think that says it all re position .

the other thing i have found , i think , is that if you are playing during the day , you will most definately come up against tougher opposition so maybe your results are a little better than you suspect

i think someone posted on my blog that impovements are not always immedaitely visible so hopefully thay will be evident soon

I think your stats look good Rob makes great points about the blinds. I think a vpip of 15-20 is the winning players stats and you would be the tight aggrasive icon on PT with your last weeks stats not the rock that you were.

Id like to talk abou your c-betting you seem to be betting 2$ OOP alot of the time and folding to a raise it might seem like nothing but over a couple of 1000 hands you could easily do this 50 times which would be -$100. I think reading the UF2B posts about cbetting and try implamenting some of there ideas into your game could save you a buy in or 2 per week.

Best of luck man.
