Analysis of Play 1st July

I played over 400 hands this evening, not a lot really happened and I finished the day $0.23 down on where I started. Not too many hands of note, these are a couple of them: -

This 1st hand was one of the 1st hands my opponent played. I had no reads on him. I had AK and flopped Top Pair, Top Kicker. I possibly could have folded on the River but never put him on a straight and what's he doing calling a raise preflop with 45 Off Suit?

This next hand was one I folded, which I think was the right thing to do but could I have played it any differently. The pre flop raiser was 30.0/5.0 and I thought he was strong as he hadn't been raising very much. I folded on the flop due to him showing strength having been very passive prior to this hand. The eventual winner of the hand was at 16.67/8.33. I had not seen too many hands with either player: -

Hand 1: You need to be betting more on the flop. I'd lead the river as well, you'll get called by a worse K a lot.

Hand 2: You need to be folding this preflop. You are holding JJ out of position facing a raise and a reraise against 2 short stacks. You're not getting the odds to try and hit a set, and you know the shortest stack is going to shove behind you.

Alsto, try and use a hand converter like the one at http://www.legopoker.com/hh/ otherwise upload the hands to http://www.pokerhand.org/ and give the links in your blog. Makes the hands a lot easier for people to follow.

I think your probably right about both hands, I certainly should have bet more on the flop in hand 1. Although he didn't quite have the odds to make the call, the implied odds were certainly there for him to hit his draw. In hindsight, folding JJ pre flop is also the right play in early position. Jack's is a hand I never really know what to do with.

I'll certainly check out the hand convertor's for future postings.

Thanks

chris

Losbert,

I just stacked you on stars when your pocket queens ran into my AKs which improved with an ace on the turn, but I want to say that you played real solid for the 140 or so hands that we played.

I had you at 13% VPIP 11% PFR on PokerTracker, which is maybe a bit tight for 6max, so you could certainly look to open up your range a bit.

You certainly played with more patience, and for the most part, picked your spots better than I did!

Good luck.

Cheers Rob your right I always tend to be around 13% no matter what I do unless I'm getting really good hands. Its an area I need to address maybe playing more in position.

The AK v QQ hand I lost concentration whilst involved in a hand on another table and should have folded to your bet especially with an Ace on the board. Important lesson learnt.

I've got you at about 30% VPIP/ 20 PFR probably a bit loose for me ideally I'd like to be somewhere between the 2!
